Here are 21 people jailed or given suspended sentences for offences in or around Sunderland during April.
They all appeared at Newcastle Crown Court unless otherwise stated.
5. Michael Taylor
Taylor, 27, of Hume Street, Sunderland, admitted burglary. Mr Recorder Toby Hedworth KC sentenced him to 32 months behind bars.
6. James Leonard
Leonard, 40, of Ravenswood Road, Sunderland, admitted assault by beating, intentional strangulation, theft of a phone, theft of money and damaging property in relation to a laptop and car touchscreen.
Mr Recorder Toby Hedworth KC sentenced him to 18 months behind bars.
7. Andrew Jeffries
Jeffries, 38, of Stanley Street, Seaham, denied assault but was found guilty at a trial he failed to attend. He admitted failure to attend court at a subsequent sentencing hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates court, where and District Judge Zoe Passfield jailed him for 12 weeks.
8. Gary Clark
Clark, 41, of Canon Cockin Street, Sunderland, admitted common assault, intentional strangulation, intentional suffocation and assault, all on the same woman. He was sentenced to 18 months, suspended for two years, with rehabilitation requirements and was ordered to attend a building better relationships programme.
