Ryan Riley, founder of Life Kitchen, has worked to help those whose taste buds have been changed to rediscover their love of food by creating dishes rich in flavour, with those who have had Covid also finding the ingredients he has brought together a help.
The Washington-born chef, who now lives in County Durham, was moved to set up the project by his mother Krista, who died aged 47, after she became ill due to cancer.

Nigella tweeted to celebrate yesterday’s publication day and said the book was “dedicated to helping those whose sense of taste have been dulled by cancer treatment find the joy of flavour and eating at this very food-centric time of year.”
Ryan’s sessions have been moved online during the pandemic to help people still make the most of their meals, while he also helped serve up 300 meals to youngsters impacted by the decision not to continue free school meals during the last half-term break.
