If you’re looking for some great independent cafes to visit while you’re there, we’ve rounded up some of the best Sunderland and Seaham has to offer, in no particular order.
1. The Bay Restaurant and Takeaway, Whitburn Bents Road, Seaburn
Recently opened in the former Paradise Garden Chinese restaurant in Seaburn, this new addition to the seafront is a more stylish place than most to enjoy classic fish and chips. The food is cooked in beef dripping for that authentic flavour. Make sure to try the curry sauce too. Photo: Photo: Tim Richardson
2. Clean Bean, North Terrace, Seaham
Seaham is home to a string of quality independents and this one was set up by a couple who were inspired by their time spent travelling the globe. They brought back with them a melting pot of flavours to open their own clean eating cafe. Make sure to try the clean eating sweet treats such as raw Snickers, raw Bounty and avocado cake with lemon cream frosting. Photo: Photo: Stu Norton
3. Fausto, Pier Point, Roker
A popular spot with cyclists, Fausto Coffee is named after champion Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi. Its distinctive Neapolitan ice cream colour scheme makes it a landmark building on Roker seafront. It's a larger site than most which makes it good for dog walkers and those with buggies. Photo: Photo: Stu Norton
4. Flamingo Cafe, Seaham Marina.
This pretty in pink cafe is a great addition to the excellent offering at Seaham Marina. It specialises in healthy foods, protein shakes, smoothies, vegan / veggie options and clean, raw and vegan cakes. Four-legged friends are particularly well looked after. Photo: Photo: Tim Richardson
