A former bomb defuser and a top mountaineer stopped off in Sunderland on their 1,000-mile cycle and swim trek from Scotland to Paris.
American athletes Neal Muller and Adam Hazlett are pioneering their "10 Degrees Latitude" adventure race from Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of Scotland, to the French capital.
Both men are experienced athletes. In 2005 Neal became the 12
5th person to climb the tallest mountains of all seven continents, reaching the summit of Everest without a professional guide.
Adam, a former Special Operations Officer (EOD) and bomb defuser for the U.S. Navy, now competes in ironman events and marathons around the world.
The pair began their trek on June 25 and rested their aching muscles at the Roker Hotel after a 100-mile slog from Edinburgh this week.
Now, they are back on the road, setting off on the next 100-mile leg of their journey, which will take them to Leeds.
From there they will continue to Dover taking on a 25-mile swim across the English Channel and 200-mile bike ride to Paris.
Keith Donkin, of Tavistock Leisure, the owners of the Best Western Roker Hotel, said: "Neal and Adam are fantastic guys. What they are doing is extremely admirable and we are proud to be offering them a place to relax for the night."
