Beauty student made-up with national silver medal
Kelsey Athey, a talented beauty student from New College Durham has been crowned UK silver medallist at the national final of the AHT, Association of Hairdressers and Therapists, competition.
The 19-year-old competed against 24 other students from across the UK in the Classical Make-Up category and was awarded second place for her 1980s inspired make-up.

Hide AdKelsey, who is studying Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy at New College Durham, said: “I was shocked but totally thrilled to win a silver medal. The standard was a lot higher than the regional final where I won the make-up category.
"It was a great experience and I can’t wait to compete again.”
Kelsey secured her place in the final following her win at the North East heat of the AHT competition, which took place at the Federation Brewery Gateshead in February. She will
now compete in the first round of WorldSkills UK at the NEC in Birmingham this month.

Hide AdHigh profile make-up and hair stylist specialist, ND Make Up Artists, who are based in Newcastle, were so impressed by Kelsey’s talent in the national final that they have offered
her the opportunity to work with them on assignments.
Pauline Hunt, Kelsey’s tutor, said: “The standard of work at the competition was amazingly high. Kelsey held her nerve in front of the judges, at a packed venue, and we were delighted that her hard work was rewarded with a silver medal.
“We are looking forward to Kelsey showcasing her talent at WorldSkills. It is a huge achievement to reach this standard and it will give Kelsey the opportunity to pursue her skills
to the highest level, on a world stage.”
