Boldon - Down Your Way
At the end of April, the Boldon’s History Group members were given an interesting talk and presentation by Sue Balmer about houses and terraces and life in and around Boldon in times gone by. This was followed by a fun quiz about how well the audience knew their Boldons by identifying the whereabouts of old back lanes and terraces in Boldon from old black and white photographs, which prompted much discussion and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The twice monthly Wednesday coffee morning held at East Boldon Methodist Church, on the corner of Bridle Path, will be held on Wednesday, May 18, from 10am-noon. Seasonal plants will be on sale as well as the usual bring-and-buy, home-made cake stall, raffles and delicious refreshments. Go along and enjoy a cuppa and bag a plant bargain.

Hide AdWest Boldon Residents’ Association will hold its AGM tomorrow at 10am in The Wheatsheaf in West Boldon. Anyone living or interested in the area is very welcome to go along and join in the meeting.
Boldon United Reformed Church on Front Street in East Boldon will hold a May fair this Saturday from noon- 2pm. There will be various stalls which will include the sale of plants, £1 parcels, tombola, raffles and lots more. Light lunches will also be served.
Local Folk Band Seganainm will host the Folk Club in the Cricket Club on Sunderland Road in East Boldon this Thursday from 8pm. Everyone iswelcome and admission is free. On Thursday, May 26, the band will be at The Alberta Social Club, near the Jarrow Metro Station for Friends of the Irish night.
Boldon Community Centre has open sessions of squash, snooker, bowls, badminton, sauna and swimming available. Contact the centre on 536 8085 for more information. An Outdoor Activity Club also arranges walks and cycle rides. There are places available in the playgroup at the centre, which meets term-time only from 9.30am–noon and 12.30pm-3.30pm. Hide AdBoldon Auction Galleries on Front Street in East Boldon will hold and Antique and Interiors sale tomorrow. Viewing from 9.a.m. Sale starts at 10am.
The Friendship Group, which has recently been set up in East Boldon Methodist Church hall, takes place every second Tuesday of the month at 2pm.
Cleadon Floral Arrangement Society will meet on Tuesday, May 17, at 7.30pm in All Saint’s Church hall in Cleadon Village. Val Guest will demonstrate flowers on the theme In the Frame, followed by tea, biscuits and raffle of floral arrangements.
