Danny Wilson will attempt to solve Hartlepool United's problem position as the clock ticks down to the start of the season.
Pools return to pre-season training this Friday with just one fresh face – former Nottingham Forest midfielder Alan Power.
Wilson is still trying to bring in a couple of signings before the season's opener against Colchester on August 9, with a new striker and right-back the priorities.
Six players were used in the problematic right-back slot last season and Wilson said: "It was not ideal using so many players at right-back, but I thought Tony Sweeney did very well there towards the end of the season.
"He has got good fitness and good energy so if push comes to shove we can play him there.
"Jamie McCunnie can fit in there as well, but, in an ideal world, we want a specialist player there."
Wilson is keeping his cards close to his chest over whether there will be any new arrivals before the end of the week, insisting the transfer situation can change in an instant.
But one player who doesn't look like he is making the move to Victoria Park is freed Manchester United midfielder Ritchie Jones, 21.
Pools were rumoured to be one of a number of clubs pursuing Jones, along with Tranmere, Blackpool, Burnley and Hearts.
"It is true that we had an interest in him last year," said Wilson.
"But there are areas that we have to identify before that and maybe bringing in Alan Power has maybe stalled that one a bit."
