The striker was dismissed early in the first half for a tackle on Bailey Wright that Lambert described as ‘horrendous’.
It was Jackson’s first start since January 9, but he lasted barely 11 minutes on the field before referee Charles Breakspear brandished the red card.

But the Ipswich manager was quick to hail his side’s response to the setback as they put in a valiant display - despite losing out to Charlie Wyke’s effort on the stroke of half-time.
"The red card certainly hurt us, without a shadow of a doubt,” he said, speaking to Ipswich’s official website.
"It's a horrendous tackle and one that justifiably was a sending off. It’s a crazy, crazy challenge and that certainly hurt us.

"We were well in the game and there was nothing really happening. But we switched off at a moment, they got the cross is and scored.
"But I couldn’t fault the effort tonight, the effort was there for everybody to see.”
When asked further about Jackson’s dismissal, Lambert added: "It was horrendous. It’s a terrible challenge and Sunderland have every right to be aggrieved by the tackle.

"You just can’t defend it, it’s a red card.”
Jackson himself, meanwhile, took to Twitter to offer an apology for the red card – and admitted that it was ‘nowhere near good enough’ in what was a big game at the top of League One.
He posted: "I take full accountability for what happened tonight, I’ve cost the boys the 3 points in what was a massive game and for that I apologise, there was no malice intended on my behalf but I’m aware it’s nowhere near good enough and I’ll do my utmost to put it right asap”
