It’s set to be another interesting summer in the transfer market, with the financial implications of a year without fans set to see a large number of clubs focusing on securing free agent transfers over the course of the window.
And the Black Cats may be no different, as they look set for a busy trading period.
But could any of the former Sunderland players set to become available prove of interest to current head coach Lee Johnson, who is set to lead an overhaul of his squad this summer?
We’ve taken a look at a number of the former Black Cats available as free agents this summer – and let us know whether there are any you would take back.
1. Ahmed Elmohamady

2. Danny Welbeck
Still remembered fondly for his loan spell on Wearside, Welbeck's contract at Brighton will expire in the summer. Photo: Mike Hewitt
3. Jimmy Dunne
The central defender spent time on loan at the Stadium of Light during the club's first season in League One - but hasn't been able to nail down a starting place at Premier League side Burnley. Photo: Pool
4. Connor Wickham
It's been a tricky few years for the striker, who hasn't played a great deal of first-team football. Indeed, he recently played against Sunderland's under-23 side for Crystal Palace. Photo: Justin Setterfield
